Assistant Professor - Occupational Therapy

Allen College is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position beginning August 2025 in the Occupational Therapy Program. The faculty member shall hold an academic faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor consistent with his/her education, post-secondary teaching experience, experience as an occupational therapist, and qualifications of the rank. The faculty is a member of the Faculty Organization Committee at large and appointed to other faculty committees; is involved in the development and evaluation of the program and students; is actively involved in teaching in the classroom and/or clinical; provides guidance and academic advising of students at Allen College; and is supervised by the School’s Dean. The program is face-to-face; however, there may be opportunities to teach online.

Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of individual courses and the overall curriculum within the College.
  2. Participates in faculty development, governance and .
  3. Participates in faculty organization committees.
  4. Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships between College and clinical agencies.
  5. Teaching:
  • Classroom and clinical preparation, instruction, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Coordination and supervision of students' clinical experiences consistent with established standards of care and course/program objectives.
  • Other activities directly related to the academic program.
  1. Serves as academic advisor for students.
  2. Participates in professional activity and community service.
  3. Participates in scholarly activities (may include the following):
  • On-going study and research to develop expertise and maintain proficiency and growth in one's field of professional specialization.
  • Writing, editing, reviewing texts and articles.
  • Serving as a consultant in the profession.
  • Attendance and participation in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
  1. Participates in the coordination, advisement, and supervision of student organization and other activities of the College not related to academics.
  2. Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of Allen College and adheres to College policies, procedures and guidelines.
  3. Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health FOCUS Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  4. Works effectively with the daily mental and physical stresses of the job which includes, but not limited to meeting deadlines, attending meetings, completing compliance requirements, meeting and working with staff, faculty, students and the public.

Qualifications

  1. A doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy which must include clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or in the case of a non-OT applicant, a minimum of two years of documented practical experience in the applicant’s profession (e.g. psychology, sociology, physical therapy, speech language pathology, etc.).
  3. Current clinical skills and demonstrated competency in practice.
  4. Documented experience in the areas of teaching responsibilities; knowledge of content delivery method is preferred. Teaching experience at a post-secondary level is preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to do scholarly work.
  6. Licensed as an occupational therapist or in the case of a non-OT applicant, licensed or otherwise regulated in the appropriate profession (e.g. psychology, sociology, physical therapy, speech language pathology, etc.) in Iowa (or ability to become licensed in Iowa).
  7. Evidence of involvement in professional activity and community service.
